Extra finance repayment reduces debt while full closure ends a farming position
Extra finance supports debt repayment when the aim is lower leverage and position closure when the aim is withdrawing farming capital. Partial closure leaves a remaining position. The choice turns on continued borrowing costs, liquidation exposure, and the assets available after settlement, rather than accumulated farming rewards alone.

Repayment lowers farming debt, while full closure settles the position and returns whatever assets remain after debt and applicable costs.
Repayment for lower leverage, closure for withdrawing capital
Repayment fits a position that will continue farming with less debt; full closure fits the decision to end that position. Partial closure withdraws only part of it, leaving continuing exposure. These actions have different completion conditions: repayment must reduce outstanding debt, while full closure must settle the debt and release the remaining assets. Withdrawing a portion does not, by itself, establish that the remaining position has the intended leverage.
Debt value and the equity available to withdraw
Equity measures the difference between the farming position’s value and its debt, so a large position balance does not represent freely withdrawable capital. Both values need the same valuation basis. Debt expressed in token units and a position expressed in currency cannot enter the same calculation without conversion.
Farming equity equals position value minus debt value. The debt ratio instead divides debt value by total position value. A lower debt ratio generally provides more distance from the applicable liquidation threshold. That relationship assumes comparable prices and unchanged threshold settings; token price movements can change it after repayment.
The displayed equity value estimates exit value. Swaps and settlement costs can make the amount received different from that estimate.
Exit assets and settlement costs
The closing method determines which assets return to the wallet after debt settlement and how much conversion the exit requires. Extra finance supports full or partial closure and a choice between minimizing trading and converting the proceeds into a selected asset. The Close a Farming Position documentation specifies a minimum holding period of 5 minutes after opening before full or partial closure is available.
The asset conversion choice
Minimize Trading
Minimize Trading limits trading to what debt repayment requires and returns the remaining assets. It can reduce trading costs, but the returned balance can contain multiple assets. Their prices continue to affect the value held after closure.
Conversion into a selected asset
Conversion directs the remaining value into the chosen exit asset after settling debt. This option changes the composition of the proceeds and can require additional swaps. The relevant comparison is the expected amount received in each asset, including the cost of conversion.
Charges that affect the proceeds
Borrowing interest, any applicable closing-time borrowing fee, swap costs, and network transaction fees affect the economic result. A borrowing fee and borrowing interest are separate charges. Pool settings determine the applicable borrowing fee, so one pool’s rate does not establish another’s. An exit-fee label alone does not describe the total cost of unwinding.
Borrowing costs and liquidation timing
Rising borrowing costs or a shrinking liquidation buffer change the case for retaining debt, even when a position continues earning rewards. Past rewards do not establish whether future farming income will cover financing costs. Waiting for an equity balance to recover also leaves the position exposed to price changes and liquidation. Evaluate continued borrowing against the remaining position’s economics; no fixed holding period makes a loss recover automatically.
A repayment checked against the remaining debt
Consider a hypothetical repayment with a position valued at 1,478 valuation units, debt worth 738 units, and an external repayment worth 218 units. Prices stay unchanged, and this simplified calculation excludes additional interest and fees. The farmer wants to retain the farming assets while reducing debt, without committing funds during preliminary checks.
The starting equity is 740 units: 1,478 minus 738. With the repayment coming from outside the position, expected debt becomes 520 units and equity becomes 958 units. The position value stays at 1,478 units under these assumptions. The additional equity reflects contributed capital, not farming profit.
The farmer checks that the proposed repayment uses the debt asset and does not exceed the amount available for payment. If both checks pass, the farmer reviews the transaction. A missing estimate calls for waiting; an unexpected asset or transaction amount calls for stopping before authorization. Preliminary review leaves the repayment unsubmitted, although the existing farming exposure continues.
After authorizing and submitting the repayment, the farmer checks execution status before repeating anything. A pending transaction gives no evidence of completed repayment. In this hypothetical case, successful execution and an updated debt value of 520 units match the expected result. The farming position remains open.
Different prices, accrued interest, or fees would change the comparison and require reconciliation in the underlying token amounts. A successful repayment cannot simply be undone; restoring leverage would require a separate action subject to its own conditions.
Full closure and the assets actually returned
Full closure completes when the intended position has no outstanding farming debt or remaining farming exposure and the settlement accounts for the returned assets. Wallet authorization and transaction submission occur before that result. A submitted transaction can remain pending or fail, so neither state establishes that the exit happened.
Settlement records identify the assets transferred, while the position record establishes whether any debt or farming balance remains. The selected exit method determines the expected asset composition. Compare token quantities before comparing their currency value: a price change can alter the displayed value without changing the quantity received.
A missing position card alone does not prove closure. An unresolved transaction or unexplained balance difference needs reconciliation before another attempt.
Partial liquidation and the position left behind
Liquidation can reduce debt without completing a voluntary exit. The farming protocol’s Safe Liquidation 2.0 mechanism can liquidate part of a position and use the proceeds, after liquidation charges, toward repayment. Further adverse price movements can cause additional liquidation. The existence of this mechanism does not establish that a particular position will retain a particular amount.
A remaining farming balance therefore needs separate attention after liquidation. Debt reduction, debt elimination, and withdrawal describe different states. Even debt-free liquidity assets can retain market exposure until withdrawal, and assets received afterward retain their own price exposure. A complete exit requires closing any remaining farming position and accounting for the assets returned.
Questions people ask about Extra finance
Can adding collateral replace repayment when adjusting farming leverage?
Adding collateral and repaying debt can both lower leverage, but they change different balances. Additional collateral increases the capital supporting the position; repayment reduces its borrowing. If the objective is specifically to reduce outstanding debt, a larger collateral balance does not accomplish that by itself.
Will repaying the amount originally borrowed always clear the farming debt?
The original borrowed amount can be less than the outstanding debt because borrowing accrues interest. Full repayment needs to account for the debt at execution, rather than relying only on the opening amount. A repayment that leaves a residual balance does not complete debt settlement.
Is a direct transfer to the lending pool a valid farming repayment?
A direct token transfer does not establish that the farming position’s debt has been repaid. The farming system restricts lending-pool borrowing and repayment calls to approved vault contracts. Repayment needs the operation that updates the intended position’s debt accounting.
What happens if a farming closure transaction reverts?
A reverted closure does not apply the intended closure changes, although an included transaction can still consume a network fee. The farming position can remain exposed while the failed attempt appears in transaction history. Its current debt and position state matter before any retry.
Does closing a farming position also withdraw a separate lending deposit?
Closing a farming position settles that position rather than withdrawing a separate lending deposit. Lending deposits and farming positions have separate accounting and withdrawal actions. Assets remaining in a lending position therefore require their own withdrawal, subject to that pool’s conditions.
